Boise Police PAL 2012 Raft-Along Program

The 2012 Raft-Along Program will be held on TuesdayJune 26th.  We will be taking 700 kids rafting. This is the 17th year we have run this program and we look forward to another successful year. The purpose of the program is to bring area kids and police officers together to break down barriers and develop understanding by working together rafting.     The event is hosted by Cascade Raft Company, Inter West Transportation, First Student Bus Co., American Catering and Boise PAL (Police Activities League). The kids are transported by bus to Cascade Raft Headquarters north of Horseshoe Bend on the Payette River. The kids are teamed with officers and a professional guide, given safety equipment and placed in rafts for the journey down river.     We float the calmer section of the river so it is safefor the kids. We have volunteer kayakers that float along with the rafts and act as safety boaters. The kids learn how to work together paddling the rafts to navigate the river safely and have a great time doing it.      Kids ages 8 to 16 are eligible to participate. Each child must fill out a rafting waiver form and have a parent orguardian sign the waiver form and return it via fax, mail or email the address listed below. The kids will be scheduled for the raft trip and a confirmation email or letter will be sent to the kids, ASAP. We look forward to another fun time so get your kids and your friend’s kids signed up. Pre-registration is mandatory!

City Forester, Brian Jorgenson

Thank you Brian Jorgenson for your talk on City Forestry and the Neighborwoods Program.

“I have identified two currently underserved neighborhoods in west Boise, West Bench and WestValley.  I am currently focusing on West Bench Neighborhood as its size lends to better control and manageability for a pilot project.  I’ve identified several hundred potential planting sites in one are of the neighborhood, but these sites will have to be further screened for the owner’s desires, underground utilities etc.

Working with the Neighborhood Association is a vital component of NeighborWoods.  I hope West Bench neighborhood association will support this project and work with neighborhood planners and Community Forestry to make it happen.”

For those who missed the meeting last week here is a couple documents you may be interested in.

Walmart is Coming.

What is happening,

Walmart is coming to Cole Village.

While WBNA not nessisarily opposed to having Walmart in our neighborhood. We are however concerned with 24/7 deliveries. And dissapointed with the way this has been handled.

The 5 southern most retail spaces at Cole Village are be combined for a new tennant a Wallmart Neighborhood Market like this. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walmart_Market ) this will displace 4 buisnesses currently residing on the site.

Disposition of impacted tennants

  • Honks (Relocating to the old Rite Aid location on Fairview)
  • Ace Hardware (vacant)
  • Advance America (Unknown)
  • Moxy Java (Cole Village LLC will not be renewing Moxy’s lease)
  • Hobby Town USA (Will be relocated to the El Tenampa building in the N/E Corner of Cole Village)

The development company for Walmart has won their appeal to Boise City’s Design Review Committee to remove the condition of limited delivery hours. (WBNA tried to appeal but were too late to the table)

WBNA believes not enough was done to notify the neighbors or impacted buisnesses and is searching for a way to appeal the 24/7 delivery provisions
