[UPDATE]

First, the deadline of July 29th will not be your only opportunity to provide comment. Rather, this is the first of several opportunities. By design, these recommendations are very basic. Our hope is to generate feedback on the general approach that will guide us in developing specific allowances and standards. We will then seek your input as specific standards are developed, and again on final ordinance language. This will all occur before any public hearing. Finally, you will be notified of the public hearings before both the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council. Your comments will be welcome at that time as well.

In short, we will be seeking your input throughout the process. Due to the confusion, and to make sure everyone has adequate time to weigh-in, we are going to extend the comment period on the preliminary recommendations to August 12, 2011.

I look forward to hearing from you, and I apologize for any confusion I may have caused. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly.

Thanks,

Cody Riddle

CELEBRATE GOOD NEIGHBORS

MAYOR BIETER LAUNCHES NEW INITIATIVE TO CELEBRATE GOOD NEIGHBORS

Mayor David Bieter today announced the launch of a new initiative to highlight Boise’s vibrant neighborhoods and the residents who support them. Called “Boise Celebrates Good Neighbors,” the initiative joins existing events such as National Night Out with a series of new community activities designed to bring neighbors together and honor individuals who have made significant local contributions.

“Great neighborhoods are the cornerstones of a livable city. Boise is fortunate to have a thriving network of active neighborhoods in all parts of the city,” Mayor Bieter said. “I hope this new initiative will further strengthen the ties between Boise residents, establish new connections within our community and honor those residents who set an example of how good neighbors can improve and enhance our lives.”

The program begins with National Night Out on Tuesday, August 2, followed by a series of neighborhood block parties in August at the city’s three new community recreation centers; a Neighborhood Summit on September 10, where residents can learn strategies to improve their communities; and National Good Neighbor Day on September 28, when Mayor Bieter will present Good Neighbor Awards to individuals nominated by their fellow residents for outstanding service to their neighborhoods.

All Boise residents are encouraged to nominate neighbors who have gone out of their way to help those around them. To nominate a local citizen for a Good Neighbor Award, visit goodneighbors.cityofboise.org or contact Charlene Miller at (208) 570-6070. Nominations are due by September 11, 2011.
