As has become tradition for WBNA,

it’s election season and We will be holding a Candidate forum.

vote

This year, challengers for Boise Mayor will answer your questions.

Mayor Beiter has declined our invatation, so won’t have all the candidates. We have decided to go ahead and have it anyway. I believe we have had plenty of time to get to know the incumbant. Now lets take the opportunity to hear from the other candidates.

Grant activities on hold

hold200Last November WBNA decided to join the Neighborhood Reinvestment Grant program. We decided 2015 would be the year of traffic box art for the west bench.

We created committees, those committees served on a jury to select artists and worked with the artists to create some fabulous works of art to adorn our neighborhoods. WBNA planned and executed a successful fundraiser yard sale (we made $358) we planned a meet and greet with the artists.

All that is on hold now until the city gets back on track with the bids. Boise weekly covered the events that lead us to where we are now. read this Boise Weekly Article for all the gory detail

WBNA Minutes of 5/14/15 Meeting

Ronnie Marler called the meeting to order at the Cole/Ustick Library.

Traffic Boxes – Ronnie displayed the proposals for the art work on a Power Point program.  He explained about the selection process starting with over 1,000 images.  Everyone attending like the proposals so Ronnie will ask the Arts and History Department to accept them.  A plaque will be on each box with ACHD the Arts and History Department of the City of Boise and WBNA being recognized as contributors

Yard Sale – The sale is set for May 30th at the Idaho High School Athletic Association parking lot on Ustick across North Ash Park from Delsa’s Ice Cream Parlor.  Set up is at 7 AM.  Sale starts at 8 AM.  Donations are needed to make the sale successful.  Chris Allen and Mary Margaret Draper will make signage for the sale.  Ronnie will post a notice on our website and other social media as we need help with setup, sales and donations.

Celebration – On June 27th WBNA with help from the Idaho Dairy Association and WOW 104.3 will host the traffic box artists at Delsa’s for a celebration of the grant.  Details to follow.  One artist volunteered to sell prints and donate the money the WBNA if it is approved by the Arts and History Department.

Neighborhood Summit – The summit went very well with 20-24 people attending.  Nine other associations were present and 4 gave presentations.  The presentations were on surveying  neighborhood needs, website and social media, special event planning and energizing your neighborhood.  Ronnie conducted an exercise on “Building a Sense of Place”.  It was well received and created much discussion. Those attending were Collister, Morris Hill, Sunset, Vista, Downtown, Shanendoa West, SE Neighborhood, NW Neighborhood, North End and WBNA.  Ronnie suggested that this be an annual event and be hosted by different associations each year.

New Business – Mary Margaret suggested that we ask Boise Parks and Recreation to purchase Spaulding Ranch and develop it into a teaching farm.  Discussion followed.

Parks in the area were discussed with a suggestion that Fairmont Park needs a walking path from Cole to Milwaukee.

Next meeting is July 9.

March 12 Minutes

Thanks to all that came to participate.

West Bench Neighborhood Association

March 12 Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Ronnie Marler.

He reported that 4 members were able to attend the selection process of artists for the signal boxes.  The Arts and Histgory Department had 120 artists whom submitted work that was shown in slide form to the attendees from around the city.  Ronnie will represent us in the next step to choose artists for the approved signal boxes.  Those attending gave him their notes on the artists that they favored.

From that meeting Ronnie reported that we were given two additional boxes in our area.  Artisits that we will be working with are:  Candi Canninng,  Amy Larson, Betsy Richarson, Danielle Mierzwa, Melanie Folwell and Ray Kane.  The Arts and History Department of Boise will contact the artists to submitt preliminary sketches that we will be able to review.

Next item was a fund rasing activitiy so we can host a celebration when the boxes are dedicated.  That line item for a celebration on our budget request was rejected by the city.  Discussion followed on a neighborhood yard sale at the Walmart parking lot.  It will be a one day (Saturday) event in May or June.  Permission from Walmart and the property manager of the shopping center needs to be granted and then we can advertise for donations and get publicity out.  Supplies, dates of the event and pricing items was discussed.

Next regular meeting will be May 14.
