This year Boise awarded $382,345 for 12 capital projects, plus an additional $13,898 for 9 \u201cmini-grant\u201d projects, for a total benefit to neighborhoods of<strong>$396,373.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Neighborhood Reinvestment Grant program is wonderful for neighborhoods because it allows their residents to decide from themselves what projects they want to undertake to improve and beautify their areas,\u201d Mayor Bieter said. \u201cThis program not only makes Boise more livable, it puts the control in the hands of the neighborhoods where it belongs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The capital project grants are intended to fund physical improvements within neighborhoods that will enrich the lives of citizens, enhance the identity and quality of life and encourage a strong sense of community. This is the second year of the city\u2019s mini-grant program, which provides neighborhood associations funding for non-capital projects under $2,000.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Projects that received funding this year include:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Somerset<\/strong><strong> Park <\/strong>(Boise Heights Neighborhood Association) \u2013 Fund the first phase of development for the park by installing new infrastructure, turf and landscape. ($56,000)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Central Rim Signage <\/strong>(Central Rim Neighborhood Association) \u2013 Purchase and install signs to identify the Central Rim neighborhood. ($3,100)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Interurban Rail Station Signage<\/strong> (Collister Neighborhood Association) \u2013 Create new signage to commemorate the 125<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of Boise\u2019s Interurban Rail System. ($4,500)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Traffic Control Box Art <\/strong>(Downtown Boise Neighborhood Association) \u2013 Commission artists to decorate traffic boxes in the downtown area. ($13,275)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Warm Springs Historic Street Lights <\/strong>(East End Neighborhood Association) \u2013 Purchase and install ten additional historic streetlights along Warm Springs Avenue. Since 2006, the East End Neighborhood Association has used NRG funding to install 39 of 50 planned historic streetlights along the avenue, not including this year\u2019s award. ($74,318)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Comba Park Community Garden <\/strong>(West Valley Neighborhood Association) \u2013 Create a quarter-acre community garden with off-street parking within the planned Comba Park property. ($59,700)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Peppermint Park Playground Equipment <\/strong>(Southwest Ada County Alliance) \u2013 Fund new playground equipment for 2- to 5-year-olds within Peppermint Park. ($65,000)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Denmark, Chile\/Sunrise Rim Sidewalks <\/strong>(Sunrise Rim Neighborhood Association) \u2013 Install new sidewalks on selected streets within the neighborhood. ($52,000)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Interpretive Walking Trail Signs <\/strong>(Veterans Park Neighborhood Association) \u2013 Install 2.5 miles of historical and interpretive walking trails in the 30<sup>th<\/sup> Street Area.
