A Neighborhood Watch “Team” is simply a small group of interested neighbors (within an established NW group) who hold the same goals for their neighborhood. \u00a0 \u00a0 They may meet monthly, quarterly, or twice yearly, and then as needs arise. \u00a0\u00a0This team is comprised of the Block Chairman (my contact person and the leader for the NW group), Block Captains, and others who take responsibilities (such as planning National Night Out, \u00a0writing the neighborhood newsletter, etc.). \u00a0 \u00a0Developing this team brings together those in your neighborhood who have a variety of interests and talents.<\/p>\n

Benefits of NW Teamwork<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0Deeper friendships with neighbors\u00a0\u00a0Shared responsibility for neighborhood\u00a0\u00a0Increased support and safety\u00a0\u00a0Improved communication\u00a0\u00a0Prevention of crime<\/p>\n

Effective Teamwork:<\/strong> The group meets to identify goals and the steps needed to meet the goals\u00a0\u00a0They communicate regularly\u00a0\u00a0They evaluate goals and activities and prioritize concerns and problems\u00a0\u00a0They spend time together building a sense of trust\u00a0\u00a0They look outside their neighborhood and mobilize with others<\/p>\n

Characteristics of an Effective Team: <\/strong>Informal, comfortable atmosphere\u00a0\u00a0Discussion involves everyone and stays on task\u00a0\u00a0There can be disagreement\u00a0\u00a0Consensus is predominant when making decisions\u00a0\u00a0Feedback is frequent and comfortable\u00a0\u00a0Assignments are clear and accepted<\/p>\n

Activities that Build Teamwork:<\/strong> Practicing safety and security measures at home\u00a0\u00a0Distributing pertinent information throughout the neighborhood via email, telephone, or hand-delivered\u00a0\u00a0Keep an eye on neighbor’s home while away on vacation\u00a0\u00a0Maintain a lived-in appearance at your home\u00a0\u00a0Keep eyes open for suspicious individuals and report to police dispatch when needed\u00a0\u00a0Provide support to neighbors who my be victims of crime\u00a0\u00a0Taking a genuine interest in the neighborhood: 1) visiting with neighbors; \u00a02)being aware of those who go above and beyond for neighbors (forming a committee to give awards or contact Charlene @ BPD to give them an award); \u00a03) considering neighbors in need and helping out with a meal or another practical way to meet the need; \u00a04) and have fun with neighbors in a variety of activities to celebrate your community.<\/p>\n
