CELEBRATE GOOD NEIGHBORS

MAYOR BIETER LAUNCHES NEW INITIATIVE TO CELEBRATE GOOD NEIGHBORS

Mayor David Bieter today announced the launch of a new initiative to highlight Boise’s vibrant neighborhoods and the residents who support them. Called “Boise Celebrates Good Neighbors,” the initiative joins existing events such as National Night Out with a series of new community activities designed to bring neighbors together and honor individuals who have made significant local contributions.

“Great neighborhoods are the cornerstones of a livable city. Boise is fortunate to have a thriving network of active neighborhoods in all parts of the city,” Mayor Bieter said. “I hope this new initiative will further strengthen the ties between Boise residents, establish new connections within our community and honor those residents who set an example of how good neighbors can improve and enhance our lives.”

The program begins with National Night Out on Tuesday, August 2, followed by a series of neighborhood block parties in August at the city’s three new community recreation centers; a Neighborhood Summit on September 10, where residents can learn strategies to improve their communities; and National Good Neighbor Day on September 28, when Mayor Bieter will present Good Neighbor Awards to individuals nominated by their fellow residents for outstanding service to their neighborhoods.

All Boise residents are encouraged to nominate neighbors who have gone out of their way to help those around them. To nominate a local citizen for a Good Neighbor Award, visit goodneighbors.cityofboise.org or contact Charlene Miller at (208) 570-6070. Nominations are due by September 11, 2011.
